A very thin concentration of scent molecules of a human in need is needed. Above that a layer of meters thick rubble, as a result of an earthquake destroying everything on it’s path. And yet the dog starts digging at exactly the right spot after searching for a while. At a depth of 4 metres he finds the victim. There is no device in the world that comes even close to the smelling ability of dogs. The SAR dog learns the trade in a playing way: he has to find his toy. If he finds it, the reward will follow: He can play for a while. In training the ‘victim´ carries the toy with him. The challenge for the dog is to find the toy. That he also finds the victim at the same time is not as important for the dog. During a disaster the search and rescue dog smells a person buried under the rubble: The search and rescue dog associates the human smell with the toy and bingo. A tasty bone might seem a better reward but it is didactically irresponsible. The search and rescue dog could be looking for a fridge and not for a missing person in a collapsed building. The LISAR search and rescue dogs are trained for searching for missing persons in any condition. In the field of Search and Rescue we are the only company with real operation and selling Search and Rescue dogs and to give SAR Course under one roof. LiSAR has experience in setting up heavy multi disciplinary USAR Teams according the guidelines and methodology of the United Nations Worldwide.(see projects).
USAR Dogs are searching in Urban and wilderness environments,
These dogs are working in a good cooperation with the handler. The dogs are not aggressive and they have the ability to take all obstacles in real situations without any problems.
LISAR gives special attention to the ability of the dog of finding people in trouble, within a short time.
Another advantage is that our dogs can be trained faster and later in the work field they can be used for longer working hours without less decreasing there search capabilities.
LiSAR has trained Large Govermental USAR Teams of Ireland, Singapore and Brunei Darusalam.
